A female nursing student has been killed and beheaded in Umuadara, Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, prompting the police to launch a full investigation into the incident.
Gatekeepers News reports that the victim, identified as Wendy Achumba from Ngwa in Abia State, was a student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, where she had completed her midwifery programme and was undergoing post-basic studies before her death.
According to multiple reports, her lifeless body was discovered inside her off-campus apartment with signs of severe violence, while residents raised alarm after noticing unusual activity around the residence. The shocking discovery drew a large crowd of sympathisers to the scene.
Eyewitness accounts said the area became tense following the discovery, as angry youths expressed outrage over the killing. Security operatives were later deployed to the scene to restore order and begin preliminary investigations.
Reacting to the incident, the Imo State Police Command confirmed that officers had visited the location for an on-the-spot assessment and that the body had been evacuated and deposited in a morgue for further examination. The command also stated that efforts were ongoing to track down those responsible for the attack.
Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said investigations had commenced immediately after the report was received, assuring residents that the perpetrators would be arrested and brought to justice. He urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive behind the killing, as investigations continue.
