African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kwara State has adopted former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Zakari Mohammed, as its consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Saturday, Mohammed described the decision of the party’s national leadership, state leaders, stakeholders, and members to adopt him as the party’s flagbearer as “deeply humbling” and appreciated what he called their trust, unity, and commitment to building a better Kwara State.
The ADC governorship candidate also commended members of the party’s leadership structure in Kwara for what he described as patriotism, maturity, and sacrifices in reaching the consensus arrangement.
Mohammed said the party remained committed to justice, accountability, competence, and people-oriented governance, adding that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him by party members and supporters.
He urged Kwarans and Nigerians seeking change to support ADC candidates in future elections, while criticising the administration of the All Progressives Congress over the current economic situation in the country.
According to him, the ADC stands against godfatherism, political intimidation, and imposed leadership, insisting that the people remain at the centre of the party’s democratic process.
Mohammed added that the party was determined to “rescue Kwara State” and contribute to rebuilding Nigeria.
