Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has debunked reports of an alleged kidnapping at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja, saying investigations found no evidence of such an incident.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement issued on Thursday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said officers attached to the Nyanya Division received a distress call at about 10:30 a.m. on June 4, 2026, reporting an ongoing kidnapping at the school.

According to her, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nyanya Division immediately deployed officers and surveillance teams to the scene to verify the report and ensure the safety of pupils and staff.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Nyanya Division, immediately mobilized officers and surveillance teams to the scene,” she said.

Preliminary findings revealed that panic broke out after some pupils suddenly began shouting “kidnappers” and ran out of the school premises, triggering fear among teachers and residents in the area.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that students had suddenly started shouting ‘kidnappers’ and running out of the school premises, creating panic among teachers and members of the community,” Adeh stated.

The police spokesperson explained that officers immediately secured and searched the school premises while conducting interviews with staff, students, and other individuals within and around the area.

“Consequently, the school premises were cordoned off and thoroughly searched by responding officers.”

She said extensive searches and investigations failed to uncover any evidence of a kidnapping incident.

“Following extensive search and questioning of persons within and around the school premises, no kidnapping incident was established, no suspect was sighted, and no victim was identified.”

Adeh added that security operatives also combed surrounding hills, boundary areas, and neighbouring locations, while nearby schools were visited as part of precautionary measures to reassure residents and strengthen security.

The command urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic and anxiety in communities.

“The Command therefore urges members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary panic and tension within communities.”

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies through the nearest police station or the command’s emergency lines.
