Fire Guts Building Housing Polaris Bank Branch On Lagos Island

A fire outbreak on Thursday engulfed a multi-storey commercial building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which houses a branch of  Polaris Bank⁠, causing panic among workers, customers and other occupants in the area.

Gatekeepers News reports that according to eyewitness accounts, thick smoke and flames were seen billowing from the building as emergency responders rushed to the scene to contain the inferno. Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, alongside other emergency agencies, commenced firefighting and rescue operations to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby structures.
The affected property is located in the busy commercial district of Lagos Island, an area that hosts several corporate offices, banks and businesses. The incident disrupted activities around Broad Street as security operatives and emergency workers cordoned off parts of the area to facilitate rescue efforts.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not confirmed the cause of the fire or the extent of damage to the building. There was also no immediate official report on casualties, while emergency responders continued efforts to bring the situation under control.  

The incident is the latest in a series of fire outbreaks recorded in Lagos Island’s commercial district, raising renewed concerns over fire safety standards and emergency preparedness in high-rise buildings across the state.
