A fire outbreak on Thursday engulfed a multi-storey commercial building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which houses a branch of Polaris Bank, causing panic among workers, customers and other occupants in the area.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to eyewitness accounts, thick smoke and flames were seen billowing from the building as emergency responders rushed to the scene to contain the inferno. Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, alongside other emergency agencies, commenced firefighting and rescue operations to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby structures.
The affected property is located in the busy commercial district of Lagos Island, an area that hosts several corporate offices, banks and businesses. The incident disrupted activities around Broad Street as security operatives and emergency workers cordoned off parts of the area to facilitate rescue efforts.
