Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) over an alleged plot to attack military formations in Borno State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the suspect, identified as Muhammad Shuaibu, was apprehended by personnel of the 212 Battalion at the Forward Operating Base in Chabbol following intelligence reports on a planned terrorist operation.
According to military sources, Shuaibu was arrested during a routine perimeter patrol about 500 metres from the anti-vehicle ditch protecting the base. Preliminary investigations reportedly linked him to efforts to gather intelligence for a planned attack targeting military positions in the area.
Security sources said the suspect is believed to have been conducting surveillance on military installations and may have been working with insurgent elements operating in the Lake Chad region. He is currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation.
The arrest comes amid ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria’s North-East, where troops have continued efforts to disrupt ISWAP and Boko Haram activities.
Borno State remains the epicentre of the insurgency, with military formations frequently targeted by terrorist groups in the region.
