Tinubu Blames Opposition For Hunger – Poverty – Promises Prosperity If Re-Elected

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has blamed opposition politicians for the hunger and poverty facing Nigerians, saying his administration is working to address the challenges.

Gatekeepers News reports that Tinubu spoke on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally in Kaduna State, where he sought support for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did. They created the hunger; they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” the president said.

Tinubu defended his administration’s performance, saying salaries were being paid regularly, while commending APC governors for their efforts in their respective states.

“Our Governors are working, and I am proud of them,” he said.

The president also urged Nigerians to support his re-election bid, promising prosperity, continuity, growth and economic recovery if returned to office.

“To you, the children of our country, this is a promise of a second term: prosperity. You will not regret voting. This is not a matter of hunger; this is not a matter of anger either. Our opponents are angry because they are failures. They have nothing to offer you,” Tinubu said.

He further urged supporters to remain cautious of statements from opposition politicians, particularly criticism of his administration’s economic policies.

“Be careful; watch them. Don’t let them lie to you. What is past is in the past. Fuel subsidy is in our past: no more corruption, no more falsification of invoices, no more lies, no more smuggling of fuel,” he said.

Tinubu’s remarks came amid persistent concerns over the rising cost of living, food prices and declining purchasing power, issues expected to feature prominently in the 2027 election campaigns.

The president’s removal of petrol subsidies and changes to the foreign exchange system have been central to his administration’s economic reforms since he assumed office in May 2023. While the government has defended the measures as necessary to improve public finances, Nigerians continue to face economic pressures.

The Kaduna rally marked the official commencement of the APC’s campaign for Tinubu’s re-election, with party leaders and supporters in attendance.
