Former Commissioner of Land and Survey, Hon. Babagana Buhari, on Monday emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Borno State after defeating two other aspirants during the party’s direct primary election.

Gatekeepers News reports that Buhari, who is believed to share family ties with one of the leaders of the ADC, Kashim Imam, secured the highest number of votes, while his challengers came distant second and third respectively.

The Returning Officer of the election, Mai Adamu Mustapha, declared Buhari the winner at the end of the collation of results from the 27 Local Government Areas of the state held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

According to Mustapha, Buhari polled 71,867 votes to defeat Attom Mohammed Magira, who scored 2,033 votes, while Sanusi Kashim Ibrahim came third with 1,033 votes.

“I hereby declare Babagana Buhari, who polled 71,867 votes, as the winner of the Borno State ADC Governorship Direct Primary Election,” Mustapha said.

Mustapha further disclosed that a total of 85,567 voters were accredited for the exercise, while 74,935 valid votes were cast out of the 102,900 registered voters across the state.

He added that the election was conducted peacefully and in line with the party’s constitution.
