Obafemi Hamzat has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 elections after winning the party’s primary election by a landslide.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Lagos Deputy Governor secured 657,917 votes out of the 657,974 ballots cast during the primary held at the party secretariat in Ogba, Ikeja. His only challenger, Lanre Jim-Kamal, received one vote, while another aspirant, Samuel Ajose, withdrew from the race before voting commenced.
The result was announced by retired General Jon Temlong, chairman of the APC national governorship primary election committee, who described the exercise as peaceful and transparent.
Among party leaders present at the declaration were Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former deputy governor Femi Pedro, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).
In his acceptance speech, Hamzat unveiled a development blueprint tagged “My Lagos Dream,” promising inclusive and people-oriented governance if elected governor in 2027. He said his administration would focus on job creation, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, security, youth empowerment and economic growth.
Hamzat also pledged to continue the developmental policies established by President Bola Tinubu and successive APC administrations in Lagos. He highlighted several projects executed during his years in government, including the Blue Line and Red Line rail projects, BRT expansion and water infrastructure upgrades.
The Deputy Governor thanked Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, members of the GAC and party supporters across Lagos for backing his candidacy, assuring residents that his government would prioritise the welfare of ordinary Lagosians and sustain the state’s position as Africa’s leading commercial hub.
